Mavis Lucretia Graham (Nee Kerry) October 1, 1927 - October 22, 2020

Passed away suddenly at home on Thursday October 22, 2020. Mavis Graham age 93 of South Mountain. Beloved wife of the late Arnold Graham. Loving Mother of Bonnie (Bob) Bancroft, Terence (Christine Hall), and Anna (Art) Elliott.  Cherished Grandmother of Shanna (Pino) Dicorato, Laura and Colin Bancroft; Charlotte and Nicholas Graham; and Wesley (Nathalie), Sean and Erin Elliott.  Great Grandmother to Giorgia and Lila Dicorato. Survived by her brother John Kerry and sisters-in-law Ruth, Ogee, and Isabel. Predeceased by her parents Gladys (Holmes) and Norman Kerry, her brothers George, Harry, Herald and Ivan Kerry and sisters-in-law Em (Harry) and Marion and Donna (John). When she was one year old her family moved west, living in southern Alberta for a year and then moving to Ongre in southern Saskatchewan.  Years of poor crops followed by the drought of the 30’s forced them to move back east in 1938.  Mavis completed high school in Ontario and graduated from nursing at Oshawa General Hospital in 1946, becoming a registered nurse.   She married Arnold in 1949 and they lived in Toronto before moving to South Mountain in 1955.  Soon she was working at Winchester District Memorial Hospital as a nurse, head nurse and finally as nursing supervisor.  Mavis was very active in the local community, particularly as a member of South Mountain United Church, volunteering with the Cancer Society, Heart and Stroke Foundation, Meals on Wheels, and the local library, and in later years as a member of the senior citizens and diners groups.   Regular family trips to Barbados provided snatches of warmth and escape from winter weather. We would like to thank Mom’s many friends in the community who have kept active with her during her retirement years, making life fulfilling and enjoyable.  She was very happy to have been living in good health at home.  Special thanks to her neighbour Shirley for all her help over the years.  Finally, to those who have tasted her legendary grape pie, we have yet to find the recipe.  A Private Graveside Service will be held at Sprucehaven Cemetery. By family request donations may be made to the South Mountain United Church, Canadian Cancer Society, or Heart and Stroke Foundation. Arrangements entrusted to the Byers Funeral Home, South Mountain (613-989-3836). Online condolences may be made at www.byersfuneralhomeinc.com

So sorry to hear about Mavis! I first met her when attending seniors with my Mom, Ruby
Boyd. She spoke loving of her family and her travels to the Barbados. She was always such a classy lady! I loved that she would show up with her best china, I on the other hand was lucky to remember to bring dishes and when I did it was Corelle, which I could not break! I hope you find that recipe for that delicious grape pie! Thinking of you all during this difficult time! Dianne Boyd Radford

Bonnie, Terrance and Anna. Our deepest and most sincere condolences to you and your families during this difficult time. We have many warm and fond memories of your mom over the years. She was at times, a force to be reckoned with but always a gentle soul . Ever quick with her smile and laughter, just as forthcoming with her praise of her precious family. She was always very gracious, never forgot a name , she always had genuine concern for others. She will be missed by the many people who’s lives she touched. R.I.P. Beautiful lady.

Sad to hear of Mavis’s passing. She was a wonderful lady, and we are privileged to have known her and have happy memories of her hospitality, generous spirit, sense of humor and the love she showed to her family, which became our family too when Christine had the good sense to marry Terence. Sincere condolences to all her family and those close to her. Mavis was a wonderful role model who set a high standard in how to live a useful, productive life and at the same time be a gentle loving person, firm in her beliefs. Mavis will be remembered with fondness by all who met her. May her wonderful spirit give strength to her grieving family.

Dear Bonnie, Terence, Anna and all your families! The news about Mavis has just reached us here in Australia. We wanted to say how sorry we are, and at the same time how pleased we are that she was independent, on her own turf and terms right to the end!! Well done, Mavis, and well done all of you who no doubt helped make that possible!! Mavis was so close mainly Aunt June, and also to Mum, that she seemed almost family to us. We remember with fondness and laughter our trip to Ste Anne’s, the South Mountain lunches, her visits to the lake over the years, and the big trip she and Aunt June made to Bali, to us in WA, and on around the world!! We treasure her in memory, as does everyone who knew her I’m sure. Our Condolences to all !

Bonnie, Terence and Anna. Maria and I were very saddened by the sudden passing of your mother. Terry, I have many fond memories of her when you and I were best friends growing up. She always made me feel welcome in your home, even late at night when the music might have been a little loud. She and my mother had become close friends over the past years and enjoyed going to various events in the community. Your mother especially enjoyed being the driver on their little trips and was fortunate to have enjoyed her independence and good health right up to the end. Our sincerest condolences to her entire family

My deepest condolences to the Graham’s and extended family.
I didn’t know Mavis but just getting a glimpse of her life through the obituary it is clear she was a strong, caring person committed to the well being of others.
Happily these traits live on in my friend and colleague Terry, as I’m sure it does in the extended Graham family.
